toddler meals

Deciding what your toddler will eat can be so fun! 🙃

One day they love a certain food, and the next day they’ll look at you like you’re crazy for having the AUDACITY to give them something they devoured yesterday.

Take it one day at a time, mama.

Sometimes it’s easier said than done but try not to let eating become this whole ordeal and obsess over what your little one is eating or not eating. We want to teach them to have a positive relationship with food.

And PLEASE try not to compare what your toddler eats or how much they eat to anyone else’s kid. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t done it, too. But haven’t you ever wondered why we do that with our kids when even adults have different preferences than each other and it’s completely normal?

Did Jeremiah eat everything on his plate in each of these photos?

Nope.

But I’m going to continue to share what I served him to give you mamas ideas and hope 😅

Soon I’ll share before and after photos with you to show what I served him compared to what he actually ate.

Even if your child only had snacks all day, remember that they most likely had a good amount of protein for their little bodies! You’d be surprised to learn how many foods have protein in them — even fruits and vegetables.

Note: Jeremiah is almost 3 and a half, so I no longer have to cut up his food as small as I used to. Always serve your little one foods based on their age and choking hazards.

Now, let’s discuss these breakfasts, shall we?

Cinnamon roll, strawberries, and scrambled eggs

This meal was definitely the easiest and the quickest. These were canned cinnamon rolls that we got from Aldi. On this particular day I decided to be a little extra and threw them in the waffle maker to make cinnamon roll waffles (then broke it up for Jeremiah). They tasted exactly the same, just decided to do something different.

I enjoy baking so a lot of baked goods we eat are homemade but there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with buying it already made from the store! If you need to save time and energy, do what’s best for you and your family!!!

I paired the cinnamon roll with strawberries and scrambled eggs. Jeremiah really enjoyed breakfast this day!

Pineapples, vanilla Greek yogurt, and pumpkin bread

This pumpkin bread was homemade. I’ll be sharing the recipe VERY soon for those who want to give it a try! But, again, if you and your family would enjoy it but you don’t feel like making it from scratch, you’ll most likely find it in most bakery sections during this time of year.

Sometimes Jeremiah refuses vanilla Greek yogurt by itself so I mix in a little honey to make it slightly sweeter and less bitter for him. Note: avoid honey if your little one is under 1 year old!! It contains bacteria that babies cannot digest yet and may cause infant botulism.

A few other yummy mix-ins for yogurt include fruit, granola, chocolate chips, or sprinkles.

White cheddar cheese, strawberries, and chocolate chip banana muffins

Whenever our bananas are a little too ripe for our liking, I make either muffins, banana bread, or freeze them for smoothies. And I’m a huge fan of adding chocolate chips to almost everything so these chocolate chip banana muffins are always a hit.

You’ll see strawberries in most of these breakfasts because those are Jeremiah’s (and my) favorite!

Applesauce, sausage, and oatmeal pancakes

The sausage featured in this breakfast is basic, pork sausages. Sometimes we get the frozen links or patties from Aldi and just throw them in the air fryer. If you don’t have an air fryer yet, who are you?

I like making oatmeal pancakes often because they’re healthier and both toddler and husband approved! Sometimes I make it from scratch, which is surprisingly quick and easy (recipe coming soon)! Or I buy the premade mix where you just add water. I get this mix from Aldi but I’m sure they sell them at most grocery stores. Check out the brand Kodiak Cakes.

Strawberries, whole wheat crackers, and egg/sausage/veggie casserole

My family enjoys this egg casserole almost every week. It should be a crime how quick and easy it is to make any type of baked egg dish. The fact that I can get my toddler to eat it, too, is another win! I almost always sneak veggies in it because my son usually doesn’t even notice! I topped it with cheese on this day but when I tell you you won’t even miss it, I am so serious!

Hopefully, your toddler will enjoy some of these meals – and if they don’t, don’t fret! I’ll be back soon with some more ideas for you!

Also, keep up with us on Instagram @theplayfulappetite! I’ll be sharing more of what we’re eating in my stories!
